Our Platform
We are in a defining moment for the Democratic Party. Across Montgomery County, people are not sitting on the sidelines. They are organizing, showing up, speaking out, and searching for ways to make a difference. They are looking for leadership, for community, and for a political home that reflects their values and their urgency.
The question is not whether that energy exists. The question is whether we are ready to meet it.
Our slate believes we can build a Democratic Party that people don’t just vote for, but belong to. A party that earns trust, invites new voices, and inspires people to stay engaged far beyond Election Day. Because winning elections matters, but how we build power matters just as much.
-
Right now we have 246 vacant committee person seats. And three-quarters of those are in Eastern Montco, which includes the most densely populated and Democratic parts of our county. We have heard that too many committee people feel disconnected from how decisions are made, and many are leaving because of that.
We will fill these vacancies, and further build out our volunteer base. We believe that when people know their voices matter, they step up.
Leadership starts with listening. Not listening to respond. Not listening to defend. But listening to understand what others are experiencing and what they need from us. Our committee people are already doing this work every day. They are the connection between the party and the community. They hear what’s working, what’s not, and where we need to grow. And the voices of committee people should shape our party’s direction.
Key Focus Areas:
Recruit and fill 246 vacant committee person spots.
Make MCDC Executive Committee meetings open and accessible to all committee people.
Develop a committee person toolbox that offers tutorials, resources, templates, and supports for the role.
Hold Committee Person, Municipal Chair, and Area Leader trainings at least twice per year, on topics such as canvassing, the role of a committee person, campaign finance, event-planning, anti-racism, and other common areas of interest and need.
Recruit and fill all vacant Executive Committee and standing committee positions to ensure committee people have communication and support in every municipality.
Facilitate regular listening sessions, open houses, town halls, forums, and surveys to ensure there are ongoing two-way feedback mechanisms in place.
-
It’s time for us to show up in our communities not only when we need votes, but when people need support, connection, and solidarity.
We believe creating more ways for people to participate—through grassroots fundraising, free community events, and year-round organizing that goes beyond campaigning—will allow us to build community power in a new way.
Key Focus Areas:
Financially support the three existing year-round area campaign offices in Narberth, Glenside, and Pottstown, with the goal of opening two more in other parts of the county.
Create additional pathways for people to get involved in volunteering with us based on their skills and interests (eg. issue-based advocacy, social media, community outreach, data analysis, etc.), in addition to canvassing and phone-banking opportunities.
Host monthly free or low-cost community-building events (e.g. picnics, happy hours, etc), and help connect and coordinate such efforts across municipalities.
Partner with local community organizations, advocacy groups, two- and four- year colleges, and others to develop ongoing community aid programs (e.g. food drives, park clean ups, etc.) and voter registration efforts.
Hire dedicated social media staff to broaden our reach online, especially with young people.
-
When processes feel unclear or inaccessible, people step back and the party loses not just their voices, but their talents. But when people trust our party, they invest in us with their time and energy.
Key Focus Areas:
Regularly hold candidate recruitment and training sessions to build a pipeline of candidates who reflect our diversity and are ready to serve.
Commit to recruiting young and diverse candidates for all offices.
Publicize screening and endorsement processes and deadlines well in advance.
Organize and host candidate forums to allow as many people as possible to learn about candidates and their positions prior to endorsements.
Share candidate screening rubrics, processes, and best practices across areas and municipal committees.
-
We believe in building an organization that is reflective of what matters most to our communities. When people believe in and trust our party, they will invest in it — with their time and their resources. And by diversifying our donor base, we will build a more sustainable fundraising model that will enable us to hold true to our values.
Key Focus Areas:
Nurture our current donor partnerships.
Develop a grassroots fundraising model where 5000 small donors give an average of $20 per month, which would bring in $1.2 million per year, in addition to our current donor base.
Develop additional fundraising mechanisms and robust supports for area and municipal committees to to raise funds for local races.
-
The values that define organized labor—solidarity, fairness, dignity, and collective action—are the same values that should guide our party.
We believe in making sure working people see themselves reflected in our candidates, our leadership, and our priorities and in creating pathways for union members to lead. When working people are at the table, our party is stronger and more grounded in reality.
Key Focus Areas:
Educate our committee members, elected officials, and the public on the importance and benefits of Responsible Contractor Ordinances (RCOs) and Project Labor Agreements (PLAs).
Support local committees in establishing organized recruitment, screening, endorsement processes that emphasize union values and pro-union policies.
Host a listening tour with elected officials to share benefits and best practices for providing support to our unions and for working people, both in practice and in policy.
Ensure union representation at the municipal and local levels, and that union members feel empowered and comfortable running for local office.
